How To Choose An Architect

When it comes to choosing an architect to plan and design your new home, office or building conversion, you’re going to want a professional with plenty of experience who can complete the job on time and to a very high standard.

To help you find the right architect for your job, we’ve put together a few handy hints about selecting an architect, which you’ll find below. We also have a listing section with contact details for thousands of architects across the UK.

1 – The best way of choosing an architect is to go by personal recommendation from a friend or relative who has recently used the services of an architect. If this is not possible find out who designed projects that are similar to yours, which you like the results of, and contact those architects to see if they can offer you the same service.

2 – Do not opt for the cheapest architect. Your choice of architect should depend on the quality of the service and product they provide, not the fee, so ask to see examples of previous work before asking them how much they charge. Sometimes you have to pay a little bit more to ensure you get the best possible results for your project.

3 – Choose a number of different architect that you like, which have the skills and experience to take on your project and ask them all for a quote. You should get at least three quotes before signing a contract with your chosen architect so you will know if you’re getting value for money.

4 – Make sure the architect you choose is clear about your aims, your reasons for the project, and your design style to avoid conflict later in the – often stressful – planning, designing and building process.
